Am I a Twixter?

Well, no, but sometimes I want to be. Like this past week while in Guam. I just wanted to run home and have the security of my parents all over again.

Grow Up? Not So Fast
MEET THE TWIXTERS. THEY'RE NOT KIDS ANYMORE, BUT THEY'RE NOT ADULTS EITHER. WHY A NEW BREED OF YOUNG PEOPLE WON'T--OR CAN'T?--SETTLE DOWN

Jan. 24, 2005 Michele, Ellen, Nathan, Corinne, Marcus and Jennie are friends. All of them live in Chicago. They go out three nights a week, sometimes more. Each of them has had several jobs since college; Ellen is on her 17th, counting internships, since 1996. They don't own homes. They change apartments frequently. None of them are married, none have children. All of them are from 24 to 28 years old. Thirty years ago, people like Michele, Ellen, Nathan, Corinne, Marcus and Jennie didn't exist, statistically speaking. Back then, the median age for an American woman to get married was 21. She had her first child at 22....

Fan Feedback

I have to say thanks to one of my number one fan's for sending me this AWESOME feedback. I like to make music that I would enjoy, so um, I guess it's great to know people enjoy the kind of music that I enjoy. Thanks Morgan and thanks Robert. Hope you can continue to spread the BRB love.

The Visionary...

It is a beautiful thing that our nation honors such a man of elequence, whose words and deeds inspired us and continue to make us more compassionate about the "human" condition.

"...we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, Free at last, free at last. Thank God Almighty, we are free at last."

CITY SESSIONS

I would like to put in a plug for City Sessions (http://www.citysessions.com) I went to the Bay Area acoustic rock showcase last night with my friend Meredith and was completely impressed. Club Waziema, which I don't think they realized means "crazy man" in Kiswahili (which is definitely not spoken in Ethiopia), is the perfect venue. Despite the clubs naming difficulties, it is hard to resist platters of Ethiopian food with a tall beer in the backroom while you listen to the smooth sounds of acoustic rock.

Last night there three artists that took the spotlight. One was a gentleman named Sherman Baker who was a very talented songwriter and I thought was pretty good.(http://www.shermanbakermusic.com) I am definitely interested in playing at this event and maybe at Club Waziema on a more regular basis. I would encourage you to check the venue out the first Tuesday of every month for the "sessions."

Hope you like.

What to expect in 2005

I don't like resolutions. I like goals. And I'm big on setting goals and expectations for myself at the turn of the new year.

Expect big things from the Billy Riggs Band in 2005. My creative juices are flowing once again, and I have had more ideas than ever over the past month. My biggest challenge is finding time to capitalize on all of these ideas. I have about 8 solid songs waiting to be recorded right now, and the ideas keep rolling.

Some things to keep in mind that we'll be pushing towards:
  • More tunes and collaboration with Gabe Riggs, Chicago artist Raul Esparza and Cleveland producer Ryan Lott

  • Midyear release of a new CD - current working title "retrospect"

  • More acoustic shows playing out and getting the BRB more exposure

  • Interesting and creative marketing tie-ins and opportunities for you to become involved with every aspect of the BRB.

Happy New Year!!!
